WITW will take place on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June 2024.

  • When does it start and close?

We Invented the Weekend kicks off at 10am on Saturday 15th June, with activities, workshops and performances popping up all over the festival throughout the day. The last performance on Saturday will be on the Weekend Stage finishing at 10:00pm.

  • How do I find a list of all events and what time they’re on?

Please visit out What’s On page or click here for the full digital programme. We also give out free programmes on site during the festival.

  • Are there indoor activities?
Yes! We Invented the Weekend has loads of activities indoors, which is always welcome in case of bad weather. The Lowry’s whole building comes to life, with backstage tours, workshops, a wellbeing hub and more. Over at the Hot House, there are lots of workshops, including Dreamed A Dream by Mikesian Studio, plus Community Clothing’s pop-up-store. At Quayside, there’s music, a whole world of food, plus ping pong, and many of our tents are undercover, including the CBeebies Tent. This is Salford, though – we encourage you to pack your mac and get stuck into some dancing in the rain!
  • Is We Invented the Weekend suitable for me if I have accessibility requirements?

Yes! WITW is situated amongst various buildings with facilities suitable for everyone and nearly all of our events and locations are step-free. We also have BSL interpreters at the Weekend Stage. You can search on the website for events that are step-free and / or have BSL interpreters.

There is an accessible viewing platform at the MediaCity weekend stage.

Changing Places facilities are available at the University of Salford and Quayside Shopping Centre. Both locations have manned receptions where staff will be happy to help.

For all of our free events, there’s no need to book a Personal Assistant ticket as they will be welcome to come along with you as part of your free ticket. If you have a specific access need you’d like to discuss or have any questions about our existing facilities, please do get in touch with our team who can assist you further: hello@weinventedtheweekend.com

  • How much does it cost to come to We Invented the Weekend?

It’s FREE! You don’t need a ticket to get into the festival and you don’t need a ticket to enjoy the performances around the festival or to get involved with activities and workshops that you see going on. Any other event that you can book for is FREE and the tickets are just to help us make sure you all get a chance to get involved.

  • Can I bring my own food?

Yes! You can bring your own picnic, bring in food from places around the festival or purchase food onsite. Please note there is no glass allowed at the festival.

  • Do you cater for a range of dietary requirements?

There are a large number of food traders, bars, restaurants, cafes and stores in and around the We Invented The Weekend, so every dietary requirement is catered for.

  • Can I bring my own alcohol?

Drinking alcohol is only permitted in licenced areas and you are not permitted to bring your own alcohol to We Invented The Weekend, or to consume any off sales alcohol on site.

We have a range of brilliant bars who we’re sure will cater for all tastes.

  • Is We Invented the Weekend dog-friendly?

Dogs are allowed and welcomed in all of our outdoor spaces, although unfortunately not indoors except for assistance dogs.

Please note that dogs aren’t allowed in Quayside, The Lowry, The Open Centre and the University of Salford, unless they are assistance dogs.

  • Lost Children

ID wristbands will be available from the information points on site.  You can then write your phone number on the wristband.  Do not write the child’s name on the wristband as this can be used to gain confidence.

We recommend dressing your child in something recognisable, taking a photo of your child on the day and if you have a buggy attach something distinctive to it.
